Setmil Corporate Responsibility
Caring for people:
The Setmil Group is committed to contribute its resources to develop the nation and its people. The group has already undertaken a number of projects which have succeeded in touching people’s lives.
By sponsoring open heart surgeries for infants, we’ve taken the opportunity to help infants with heart defects. Through this we are touching their lives and giving them the chance for a better future.
Through our resources we believe in giving back to the community. We have contributed to preserving our ancient heritage by renovating the 130-year-old Vidyalankara Pirivena in Kelaniya which is believed to contain parts of the Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha. We have also helped to upgrade the Sucharithodaya Lama Nivasa (children’s home), and make the standard of living ideal for those children. Following the Tsunami that devastated the coastline of Sri Lanka in 2004, we have helped people get their lives back on track by building 25 houses.
Setmil Group of Companies and Sea Consortium have constructed “A little village” in Rasandeniya – Matara, consisting of 25 houses for distribution to the homeless citizens of Sri Lanka who were displaced by the Tsunami in December 2004. These houses have been designed with local cultural needs in mind and constructed with specifications for each house to consist of a verandah / living area / 2 bed rooms / kitchen / attached toilet / electricity and water, portraying a very high standard.
